A Tribute to J.R.R. Tolkien

J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit as well as other works.

His works created an absorbing fantasy world which spanwed Dungeons and Dragons, and inspired a huge following.

If you've never read The Lord of the Rings, then first read The Hobbit (which is a fun story) if you haven't already. The Lord of the Rings is an epic, a masterpiece. It may seem like a lot of pages to read, but when you're done, you'll be sad there are no more.

I think J.R.R. Tolkien has had a profound and positive effect on me. So I created this tribute page in gratitude.

Of course, there is a real J.R.R. Tolkien home page which has a lot of great stuff for you to explore, and it's where I grabbed an image of J.R.R. Tolkien from. (b/w 7K gif)

Another cool page is Isildur's Tolkien Page

If you're interested in his life, check out Tolkein's Birmingham.

There is also a good yahoo page which lists many other J.R.R. Tolkien Resources.

Check out my new Hildebrant Brothers web site where you'll find dozens of incredible Tolkien-related images. The best on the web!

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for the Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

I scanned these images of the original book covers from the first set of The Lord of the Rings that I read. Click on them to see the full-size images. Put the three side-by-side and they form one bigger picture.

I scanned the Map of Middle Earth (88K b/w jpeg) from the same book.

The definitive illustrators of scenes from J.R.R. Tolkien's works would definitely have to be Tim and Greg Hildebrandt. I've assembled a set of Gallery Pages devoted to the Brothers Hildebrandt where you can see why they are such incredible artists.

Rankin Bass produced an animated film of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. There was a soudtrack album which came with a booklet of images from the movie. I've assembled a set of pages which include scans from the booklet, and more.

This page has been very popular over the years. It gets a pretty steady hit rate of about 175/day, or about 65K hits/year. Not too bad for a private page. I'm proud that my page has no advertising. :-)

In fact, this page has won an award as a Links2Go Key Resource!
