Welcome to the Camp Nose Fish 2009 home page. This year, we present Tree of Life and Superhero Evolution.

Use the links at left to explore the different parts of our web site.

Special note for the Burning Man Placement Team:
If you are pressed for time, here are the crucial links you need:

In the "less is more" spirit, our camp has three main projects:

The Tree of Life
(Theme-related)
The Tree of Life is an interactive project designed for the nighttime. Over 600 feet of super-bright LED ropelight were cut into segments and suspended inside a 3v dome to form a tree. Each segment will be on by default, but a control panel allows people to turn off segments simply by dragging a magnet across the panel. People are welcome to lay underneath the tree of life and look up through it while other people play with the control panel. See the Tree of Life page for a larger picture and more details.

The Burner Observation Dome
(Vaguely theme-related)
The Burner Observation Dome will allow for observation of Burners in their Native Habitat at all times of the day and night. Inside will be the Superhero Evolution project. The Burner Observation Dome is a 16' diameter, 8' high 2v dome in which people can chill in chairs or on the floor. On top of this dome will be the "Nosefish Dome Deck," a small deck with a small 1v dome for shade cover. This is another example of repurposed materials and creating useful and enjoyable, durable and reusable structures with a minimum of materials.

for more information on the dome deck, including complete instructions on how to build one, what materials and tools are required, and lots of tips to make the project safe and as easy as possible.

Superhero Evolution
Inside the Burner Observation dome will be a set of tables with sewing machines. We'll provide four simple patterns for superhero attire and oodles of stretchy fabric (pretested to ensure it doesn't unravel or form loose threads when cut). Participants will be invited to create a cap, mask, cape, skirt and/or bracers so they can evolve into the superhero they really are. There will be scheduled times when helpful superhero mentors will be available to help people create their costumes, but people are also welcome to come by and make costumes during the day. We'll have four sewing machines because we hear the playa eats them like candy...

We hope to be placed again in the 3:00 Plaza again. The Plaza's access to 120v power enables us to provide sewing machines during the daytime, and power the Tree of Life project all night. It also allows us to use power tools for setup and breakdown, etc.

In 2004, 2005 and 2006 we were proud to be one of the Earth Guardian's Leave No Trace model camps. We also won the coveted "Camp of the Day" award in both 2004, 2005 and 2006! We will continue our LNT tradition and bring only what we need.

Our camp has four geodesic domes we use as shelter and for projects. We also have a 24'x24' windcloth shade cover, under which we put tents and chairs. We also have our zero-impact nosefish shower. We collect and treat our shower water.

Everyone in our camp shares a solid and creative commitment to having zero net impact on the Playa. We have both an LNT guru and a recycling guru in our camp. Read our cleanup commitment to find out just how hard we work to keep our impact on the playa to a minimum.
